altTEHRAN – Mahmoud Reza Khavari, the former managing director of Bank Melli who has reportedly escaped to Canada over the $2.6 billion financial fraud, did not show up at Tehran’s Imam Khomeini Airport, the Mehr News Agency reported on Friday.

Khavari was scheduled to arrive at 2:40 AM on Friday by a British Airways flight; however, the airplane landed without him.

National Prosecutor General Gholam-Hossein Mohseni-Ejei, who has been tasked to handle the fraud case, had previously said, “If Khavari does not return to Iran, many accusations will be leveled against him.”
